I’m the type of person who abhors making mistakes. I get anal about every miniscule detail. If anything goes haywire, my whole day is ruined and I get mixed up. At the course of this semester, I realized that I needed an attitude change. Nursing school is tough and there are a lot of materials to learn. I felt overwhelmed with all the information and stress that came with it. However, I learned that I should stop “competing” to be the “best” nursing student because that would just create a “burnt-out” student nurse. Instead, I should just focus on the task at hand, do my best, learn from my mistakes, not give up, learn to do the basics, and being a turtle ain’t so bad as long as you reach the finish line.

Today, for the first time, I gave a patient a bed bath and peri care. In the past, I usually would have someone helping me, but today I was able to do it alone. I am actually so glad that the CNA in charge of the patient trusted me and told me, “Here, I’ll get the supplies, and you can give the bed bath. I’ll leave the room so you can figure out things on your own and learn how to do it.” When the CNA said that, I felt a sense of dread and excitement at the same time.

I’m sure that most of you who will be or are reading this have performed numerous awesome bed baths and peri care in the course of your student life or nursing career. For me, this was the first time doing it alone. All I can say is that I felt a sense of relief that I finally managed to do it alone. I felt a sense of independence and confidence in myself. Let me tell you, I didn’t do it perfectly at the first try, in fact, I had to turn the patient a couple of times to properly place the adult pad. I felt bad having to do this because of the patient easily having SOB. However, in the end I did it, bed bath and peri care!

Hello my sweeties! So sorry for being gone for almost a century (exaggerating). Nursing school has been so awesome and challenging as usual. I feel like I’ve aged or matured a lot during these days due to the vast amount of knowledge being constantly pounded on my brain. Trying to understand the materials without some cartoons is really a bore, so I highly recommend the books above to help simplify the complicated world of nursing books. I struggled also in making care plans, usually took me about three days to formulate one (maybe because I have an undiagnosed case of ADD). So I bought that greenish bluish book up there entitled, “Nursing Diagnosis Handbook - An Evidence-Based Guide to Planning Care”. I also highly suggest buying “Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications.” These two books are such a life saver and they are top class, both wanting to be your friends. I leave you all with this for now.

most people don’t see past the music and song to truly see the passion that exudes from him. its that minute detail that determines a great musician; not by how good the song is played but by the swaying in his body that you can tell that he is truly feeling the moment and the song. you can tell just by his posture and his technicality that he’s worked pretty damn hard to get at that level of musicianship and i envy him because i was once really passionate about playing the piano and clarinet and whenever i played either instrument, i don’t just play the song, i live in the moment and let the song move me. it takes a great level of comfortability with your emotions to play an instrument and not only hear the song but also feel it and that’s why i think this violinist is really awesome.

its the same way with dance: anyone can dance, no matter how little experience you’ve had but you’ll never truly understand it and be great at it unless you give off a sense of passion and emotion to it.
